McLaren drivers out of title race
![]() Is it now a three-way battle for the title? |
?Focus and concentration will be of paramount importance and there is none stronger in this regard than Ferrari?s Fernando Alonso.?The Guardian?s Oliver Owen thinks that it is Mark Webber?s title to lose now, and that this may be the Australian?s last realistic chance of winning the title.
?He has driven beautifully. Monaco and Silverstone spring to mind. He has been an uncompromising racer, not giving Vettel or Lewis Hamilton an inch in Turkey and Singapore respectively. Most importantly, he has largely avoided the bouts of brain fade that can wreck a season ? his on-track hooning in Melbourne when racing Hamilton being the only exception. But there is a feeling that for Webber it is now or never, that a chance of a tilt at the title may never come again. He is certainly driving as if that is the case and that has been his strength.?According to The Mirror?s Byron Young, both McLaren drivers are now out of the title hunt after their fourth and fifth place finishes in Suzuka.
?McLaren's title hopes died yesterday in a weekend from Hell at Suzuka. Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton finished fourth and fifth in a Japanese Grand Prix they had to win to have the remotest chance of keeping their title bid alive."The Sun?s Michael Spearman was of the same opinion, saying ?Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button's title hopes were in tatters after a shocker in Japan.?

McLaren Says They Will Support Button

McLaren have just confirmed that they will back Jenson Button in his title defense at the Brazilian Grand Prix, despite the English driver being 42 points behind with only 50 points up for grabs.
His teammate, Lewis Hamilton, is only 21 points behind and could use the support of Button, but that?s just not going to happen.
"He has vowed to fight on and we will be supporting him fully next weekend," said McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh to the BBC.
"Jenson knows you can’t lift the title without being a resolute fighter."
Button knows that it?s a long shot, but he has said that he wouldn?t be able to forgive himself if he backed down and did not try and defend his title. He has stated that he will continue to fight until it?s mathematically impossible for him to win.
Currently, Fernando Alonso sits atop of the standings, with Mark Webber, Hamilton, and Sebastian Vettel close behind. Webber is currently the closest to Alonso, as he is only down 11 points.
Despite being so far down and behind four other drivers, Button remains upbeat.
"It’s totally possible I could win at Interlagos, take home maximum points and have none of the other title contenders finish, he said to the BBC.

Next generation Porsche Boxster caught testing again

The next generation Porsche Boxster has been caught testing yet again at the famous German race track, the Nurburgring. And seeing as though the sportscar has been mostly unwrapped, we think it’s safe to say that it’s in its final stages before its official launch in March at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.
From these new spy shots, we can finally take a good look at the front of the vehicle as well as the doors, even though the real dirt on the Boxster is the fact that it has grown in length to make room for the "baby Boxster."
Under the hood the Boxster will use a slightly revised version of the 310-HP 3.4-liter six-cylinder engine, but rumors suggest that it might receive an advanced four-cylinder engine producing about as much horsepower as the current 2.9-liter six (255): "A Boxster with a four-cylinder engine, or maybe even a three-cylinder turbo, could produce between 180bhp and 200bhp and emit just 180g/km of CO2," said Hans-Jurgen Wohler. "Given the Boxster?s history ? that it started with a 200bhp, 2.5-liter engine ? I think this is possibly something that customers could accept."
Production is scheduled to start in early 2012, this time in Stuttgart and not in Finland as the current generation.

Alonso the new favourite
![]() Fernando Alonso is the new favourite for the title |
?He is the man with the momentum and, on the same basis that I backed Mark Webber to win the title before Korea, is now my favourite to claim the world title in Abu Dhabi on Nov 14. ?When the cars are so evenly-matched you have to back the man in possession. Especially when that man is a two-time world champion and arguably the finest driver of his generation.?The Mirror?s Byron Young drew comparisons between Alonso and seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher as the Spaniard bids to become the sport?s youngest ever triple world champion.
?Like Schumacher, Alonso accepts no opposition within his team. Ultimately he fell out with McLaren over their refusal in 2007 to bring Lewis Hamilton to heel. ?He returned to Renault on condition he was No.1, only to be at the centre of the Singapore cheat scandal - engineered to hand him victory. ?The Spaniard has always denied involvement but at the German GP in July he was brazen enough to radio Ferrari to rein in team-mate Felipe Massa so he could start the winning streak that has taken him to the brink of history.?

A silver lining for Liuzzi perhaps?
The main objective for Force India at the Korean Grand Prix was to remain in front of Williams come the end of the weekend. That?s exactly how it panned out although Force India did do it the hard way.

Turkish GP: Vettel fastest in final practice ahead of qualifying

May 30 '10
Sebastian Vettel was the fastest man on track yesterday for the final practice session ahead of qualifying for the 2010 Turkish Grand Prix. Some of his key rivals faced problems while others had off-track excursions, notably at turn 8.
Nico Rosberg was one among the late improvers. He claimed a strong second while spending much of the time at the bottom end of top ten.
Lewis Hamilton who finished third, had a lurid spin at turn eight. Via iTV, "Mid-way through the session the former champion ran wide over the kerb at the second of the sweeping corner?s three apexs and spun backwards into the gravel, having to be pushed out by marshals so he could recover to the pits.
On his return to the McLaren garage it emerged the spin had shredded his hard compound tyres while also doing minor damage to the MP4-25?s floor and area around the diffuser.
His team got him out for the final six minutes for a final run on the soft-tyres, however, and his best lap eventually wound up 0.310s slower than Vettel?s last-gasp flyer."
Mark Webber faced a throttle response problem, but nonetheless finished fourth. According to iTV, " A throttle linkage problem struck on his RB6 almost immediately after he left the pit lane for the first time, meaning he had to crawl around the 3.3-mile lap back to the garage."
Adrian Sutil managed just one lap before returning back to pits due to a hydraulic problem on his Force India.

Shelby Mustang GT350H... I have NO luck...
Hi all
Fall is here and that means more rain and clouds... days to stay inside. I tend to get depressed when it is dark a lot outside... but I also tend to get "artsy". I am still struggling with my modeling burnout... So at the suggestion of a few folks on the forum, I have started a kit of a subject that is not my usual "thing". It is a Revell/Monogram Shelby Mustang GT350 Hertz.
I realized after I started it, though, that this was a stupid move. The car is BLACK, with CHROME trim. Me and foil don't mix well. And I will have to apply it on a black body. I can smell disaster already... I read that some of these cars actually came in colors other than black, but it is the classic scheme that made me get the kit in the first place.
Here is what I have done so far...

HPP Trans Am and Camaro coming to SEMA

Retro seems to be the name of the game at this year’s SEMA as a few tuners are heading towards the past to recreate some revivals of previous models. We’ve already heard about the Chevrolet Camaro T-Top being displayed by Drop Top Customs, but the people responsible for last year’s HPP Daytona having something else to throw at us. At this year’s SEMA Auto Show HPP Heide Performance Products is at it again with two new projects: a new Trans Am prototype and a customized Chevrolet Camaro. And, hey, if they want to throw in the girls as part of the display too, we wouldn’t mind.
The only information we have on the two cars at the moment is what is shown on the images provided. The Trans-Am concept is based on the chassis of a Chevrolet Camaro and is a revival of the 1970s Pontiac Trans Am Ram Air III. Here they have added some white exterior paint and a couple of blue racing stripes that make this model look even better than the original.
We’ll find out more about these two projects when we hit the showroom floor at the 2010 SEMA Auto Show, so stay with us and we’ll keep you posted!
